The most affectionate boy?

Frederick continues to grow in confidence and reveal his true self… and he just might be the most affectionate boy cat ever. He’s still nervous and a little jumpy about movement so it’s been hard to get any good photos but he just loves to get his cheeks, chin and neck scratched. It takes a little bit of coaxing but he now comes to join me on the seat cushion to get pats and the yummy Dine Creamy Treats paste. He is even happy to sit there and bath himself. Since Thursday I have also been regularly finding him lying on the seat cushion when I enter the room. This is great to see as it shows he’s growing in confidence to be comfortable out in the open rather than finding nice secure hidey holes for napping.

As he’s grown in confidence he’s also graduated his favourite to from the dragonfly (good for playing in confined spaces) up to the Da Bird, which requires more space. He still often likes to be a little hidden under things when playing but is getting a lot more exuberant in hunting, pouncing and jumping up on the scratching post to chase it.

When he’s been getting pats and then has been startled by movement, he can get a little nervous and just takes a little while to calm down - just a couple of times he’s batted away my hand if I’ve gone to pat him too soon after he’s been startled. Obviously a habit we want him to avoid learning but I think it shows progress that he’s grown in confidence enough not to just scurry away and hide somewhere safe and it’s just an open-pawed bat (no claws) as his way of saying, “not just yet”.

I’m sure it is only a matter of time before Frederick becomes a sooky lap cat who just wants to snuggle and get pats all the time.
