Another short story with a happy ending
Our company on Saturday morning was a handsome American Staffy senior chap named Bolt. We had just a fabulous morning. Bolt had been getting a little stressed in the shelter but was just full of love and excitement to be out and about. We had a nice casual stroll covering plenty of ground but, being a little older (10 years) and having had a recent leg injury, we were careful to overdo it.
The only dampener for the morning was the one individual out walking his dog off-leash in the park. I mean seriously - come on! This You might think your dog is fine off the leash but just stop and think for a second about the other dogs who will be out and about - you don’t know them and you don’t know how they might react! Poor Bolt has been cooped up in a shelter kennel for weeks - anxious and stressed. Then he has to deal with some dog that he doesn’t know charging at him! The other dog was still very young and excitable, and of course wouldn’t respond to its recall command. To make matters worse, it’s a big park that has several designated off-leash areas - if you want to let you dog off, take them to the designated spot! I would like to think that dog owners would know better but sometimes common sense just isn’t that common.
I must also admit that his age had us worried about how long it might take to find this lovely soul a nice furever home. But if the title didn’t give it away already, the good news is by that evening he had been adopted!!!
While the news was great for Bolt, two of our previous doggos are still waiting to find their furever homes - Roxy and Curly. So I made sure to go around to visit them in the afternoon to spend a bit of time with them and give them a cuddle and a treat. Fingers crossed.
