Our new tradition

Shadow is a very good boy
Shadow is a very good boy

We started a new family tradition on Saturday morning, borrowing an RSPCA Queensland doggo to take on an off-site excursion. For our inaugural excursion, we were blessed to be joined by Shadow, who’s currently available for adoption from RSPCA Queensland (update: has been adopted!!!).

Shadow joined us for a trip to Anzac Park in Toowong where we had a great walk and got to meet some other people and doggos out on their walks. Shadow was on his best behaviour - we practised our loose-lead walking, sitting and shaking hands. We were a little wary of the tap - it was a bit scary for Shadow but he had a few big drinks of water. To finish off, Shadow decided that I needed to practise my smiling for selfies when sitting with an affectionate doggo.

A great first time taking an RSPCA Queensland doggo offsite for an excursion and a fabulous way to start the weekend. We came well prepared with lead, treat pouch, poo bags, water bowl, tasty treats, car restraint and a borrowed harness, but the one thing I forgot was something to put down on the backseat. I won’t be allowed to forget that again and now I have to go clean up all the dog hair!

A very big thank you to the Animal Care team for allowing us to borrow a dog for the morning and the Behaviour Team for choosing Shadow - a dog who was desperate for some time offsite but also a good match for our experience level.
