Fast farewell for Fred
Fred stayed with us for another 2.5 months after my last post. In that time he continued being the most affectionate cat in the world, but he continued to flourish. With his newfound confidence, he grew to love sitting on the couch beside us, sitting right up against us tucked in against our side under an arm. I’m writing this in the middle of winter, thinking back to how much he loved to snuggle up in the middle of summer - he really was just super affectionate!
I’ve included a few of the photos and videos of Frederick in with this post. I can’t remember many other specific stories to share but just remember really enjoying having him around those last few months - he just enjoyed the company and became quite a confident little chap.
His departure from the house was very sudden. I got into RSPCA for my volunteer shift on Saturday in January to the news that there was a person interested in adopting Frederick. I spoke to them on the phone and they were on their way out to the shelter to also look at some other cats available for adoption. When they got out they had a look around but were adamant that Fred was the cat for them. Holly was coming out to the shelter a little bit later that morning so I called her up asking her to bring Fred with her. A short while later he was there, a brief farewell out the back changing him from one cat carrier to another (he was terrified) and then he was gone to his new furever home. It really felt so sudden and heartbreaking to see him so scared, but his adopting family were super lovely and knew that he was the cat for them so I’m sure it was going to work out alright. I still miss the little guy and giving him his belly rubs.
